We can’t wait for the fog to lift. We have to move through it.
Uncertainty has become a defining feature for 2025. Whether due to artificial intelligence, global conflicts, or economic instability, the path forward in one’s career often appears foggy. In this episode of The Job Hunting Podcast, I explore how corporate professionals can make informed decisions in the face of ambiguity.
As a career coach, I work with experienced professionals who are facing redundancy, considering career pivots, and seeking to reinvent themselves. In this episode, I discuss how to think strategically about artificial intelligence (AI), why purpose-driven work is more essential than ever, and what practical steps you can take today to stay relevant and employable in 2025 and beyond.

Understanding The Factors Impacting Your Career
The Rising Influence of Artificial Intelligence
AI is now embedded in recruitment processes, daily workflows, and strategic decision-making across industries. If you've been made redundant, it's not unreasonable to suspect that AI played a role, either directly through automation or indirectly through shifting organizational priorities. The key message I share is this: AI will impact your profession, and understanding its implications is essential. Whether you choose to lean into the tech or pivot away from it, you must make that choice consciously.
Here are two strategic paths you can follow:
- Embrace AI in Your Profession: Learn how AI is applied in your industry. Understand the tools, automation trends, and how to speak about them in interviews. You don’t need to become a coder, but you must be AI-literate. This positions you as someone who stays informed and adaptive.
- Shift to Human-First Roles: If technology doesn't excite you, consider transitioning to roles where human connection, emotional intelligence, and leadership are irreplaceable. This includes coaching, stakeholder engagement, governance, and community partnerships. These roles rely on empathy, cultural understanding, and strategic influence, areas where humans still outperform machines.
Case Study: "Ruth´s" Career Pivot
“Ruth” (not her real name), a former senior project manager at an international NGO, faced redundancy due to the integration of AI and funding cuts. With my support, she used the TalentPredix strengths assessment to identify that her core strength was relationship building. She repositioned herself for community partnership roles in mission-driven organizations. Today, she is interviewing for a senior engagement position with an international foundation. Ruth’s story illustrates that opting out of the AI race is possible when you make intentional, strategic career choices based on your values and strengths.

7 Actionable Strategies for Job Seekers
- Choose Your Strategic Direction: Decide if you want to pursue AI-enhanced work or focus on human-centric professions. Avoid staying in the middle, waiting for clarity. Indecision is not a safe strategy. Make a deliberate choice.
- Conduct a Strengths Assessment: Use tools like TalentPredix to better understand your natural strengths, values, and drivers. This provides you with language to articulate your unique contributions and align your career path accordingly.
- Loosen Your Career Planning: Instead of rigid five-year plans, adopt what I call "loose planning." Have a direction, not a fixed map. This flexibility allows you to adapt to new information and emerging opportunities.
- Anchor in Your Values: Ask yourself: What matters to me right now? Flexibility? Leadership? Purpose? Once clear, filter job opportunities through these criteria. When professionals align their work with their values, they interview better and find more sustainable roles.
- Talk to People: Don’t wait until you feel "ready" to network. Conversations with former colleagues, industry professionals, coaches, and mentors provide real-world insight you can't find through research alone.
- Crystallize Your Skills: Many professionals have up-to-date experience but no certification to show for it. Identify one skill to formalize this month. Whether it’s project management, ESG, or data visualization, show hiring managers that you’re current and proactive.
- Rebuild Confidence Through Action: Confidence isn’t a prerequisite for action; it is a result of taking action. Start small: update your resume, sign up for a webinar, reconnect with a former boss. Movement brings clarity.
Future Outlook: What Lies Ahead for Professionals
The fog of 2025 is real. Wars are unresolved, and economic indicators are mixed. But amid all this, two things remain true: technology will continue to evolve, and professionals who understand their unique value will stand out.
The future of work will favor:
-
Adaptability over fixed expertise
-
Human skills over rote knowledge
-
Purpose-driven work over passive employment
Whether you're aiming to stay in your industry or pivot completely, staying connected, informed, and values-driven will be critical.
Courage Over Certainty
You don’t need to see the entire staircase to take the first step. You need direction, courage, and a willingness to learn. As I shared in this episode, your professional journey is not about perfect clarity; it’s about committed action aligned with who you are.

Why Most Professionals Fail at Job Searching? They don’t schedule it. Job searching is often treated like a side task - something to do after dinner, on weekends, or when everything else is done. The result? Delays, missed opportunities, and rising frustration. The fix is simple, but not easy: treat your job search like a real job. Listen to this episode to hear me talking about it!

Time Out:
- I´m going through some brand new albums of Brazilian music, because, frankly, Brazilian music is awesome and much more than just "Girl from Ipanema." This album by Pedro Emilio, Enquanto os Distraidos Aman, is great background music for when you're having friends over for drinks or lounging by the pool. Seu Mundo by Ryan Fidelis is a great listen for a casual stroll with your dog - it has that nice rhythm that will keep you moving without haste.
- I´m in Brazil visiting family. Follow me on Instagram, where I post stories with updates on my whereabouts if you're interested. One thing that I haven't been able to eat because of my gluten intolerance is a favourite Brazilian pub food, stuffed crab shells. I've found this recipe and will try to replicate it at home, using gluten-free breadcrumbs.
